Mound

Geographic proper noun

A mound is a rounded pile or heap of earth, stones, or other material.

Some mounds are natural formations; others are built—burial mounds, pitcher's mounds in baseball, or mounds of dirt from excavation.

The word extends to any heap: a mound of laundry, mounds of paperwork.

To mound is to pile up: She mounded whipped cream on the pie.
