couscous

Tiny pasta spheres

Couscous is a North African dish of tiny steamed granules made from semolina wheat, traditionally served with stewed vegetables and meat.

The word refers both to the grain itself and to dishes made with it: We had lamb couscous for dinner.

Israeli couscous is a larger, pearl-shaped variant.
