pitching mound
Raised throwing spot
The pitching mound is the raised circular area in the center of a baseball diamond from which the pitcher throws.
It sits 60 feet 6 inches from home plate, with a rubber slab where the pitcher must begin each delivery.
The elevation—ten inches above the playing field—gives pitchers a downward angle on their throws.
