pitchers mound
Rubber's raised platform
The pitcher's mound is the raised dirt area in the center of a baseball diamond where the pitcher stands to throw.
It sits 60 feet 6 inches from home plate in professional baseball, with a rubber slab the pitcher must touch during delivery.
The elevation—about 10 inches above the field—gives pitchers a mechanical advantage.
Also called simply the mound: He's been dominant on the mound this season.
