LHC

CERN's particle smasher

LHC is the Large Hadron Collider, the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator, operated by CERN near Geneva.

It accelerates protons or heavy ions through a 27-kilometer underground ring, smashing them together at near light speed to study fundamental particles.

The LHC confirmed the Higgs boson in 2012: The LHC discovery completed the Standard Model.
