Large Hadron Collider
CERN's massive ring
The Large Hadron Collider is the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator, operated by CERN near Geneva.
It accelerates beams of protons or other particles to near light speed and collides them, allowing physicists to study fundamental particles and forces.
The LHC famously confirmed the existence of the Higgs boson in 2012.
Often referred to simply as the LHC.
