baryons
Protons and neutrons
Baryons are subatomic particles made of three quarks, including protons and neutrons—the particles that make up atomic nuclei.
The term distinguishes them from mesons (two quarks) and leptons (electrons and their relatives).
In particle physics, baryon number is a conserved quantity in most interactions.
Ordinary matter consists almost entirely of baryons.
