Mount Doom

Ring's final resting

Mount Doom is the volcanic mountain in J.R.R.

Tolkien's Middle-earth where the One Ring was forged and where it must be destroyed.

The name has become shorthand for any final destination requiring a difficult journey, especially one with high stakes: Getting through airport security felt like the long walk to Mount Doom.
