hobbit
Small, hairy-footed folk
A hobbit is a member of a fictional race of small, human-like creatures in J.R.R.
Tolkien's fantasy novels, particularly *The Hobbit* and *The Lord of the Rings*.
Hobbits are characterized by their short stature, hairy feet, love of comfort, and preference for quiet rural life.
The word has entered general usage to describe someone who enjoys simple domestic pleasures or avoids adventure: I'm too much of a hobbit to go backpacking through Asia. (Capitalized Hobbit emphasizes the fictional race in Tolkien's works.)
