Huck Finn

Huck Finn is the protagonist of Mark Twain's *Adventures of Huckleberry Finn* (1884), a resourceful boy who escapes his abusive father and rafts down the Mississippi River with a runaway slave.

The name evokes American frontier independence, youthful rebellion against social hypocrisy, and a particular kind of scrappy, uneducated wisdom: He had a real Huck Finn childhood, running wild in the woods.
