alter-ego

Your other side

An alter ego is a second self—another identity or persona distinct from one's usual personality.

Originally Latin for "other I," the term describes everything from a trusted confidant who knows your true nature to a fictional character's secret identity: Clark Kent's alter ego is Superman.

Writers sometimes create alter egos to explore ideas at a remove from themselves.
