Gita

Sacred Sanskrit dialogue

Gita is a Sanskrit word meaning "song," most commonly encountered in English as shorthand for the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu scripture.

The Bhagavad Gita presents a dialogue between the warrior Arjuna and the god Krishna on duty, mortality, and spiritual liberation.

References to "the Gita" in English almost always mean this text: She reads the Gita every morning.

Gita is also a given name in South Asian cultures.
