Fresco

A family name

Fresco is a technique of painting on freshly applied wet plaster, allowing pigments to bond permanently with the wall as it dries.

The word comes from Italian for "fresh." Major frescoes include Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling and works throughout Renaissance Italy.

By extension, any large mural may be called a fresco regardless of technique.
