alfresco

Under the sky

Alfresco means outdoors or in the open air, especially for dining: We ate alfresco on the terrace.

The word comes from Italian and carries a slightly upscale connotation—you dine alfresco at a restaurant patio, but you just eat outside at a picnic.

It works as both adverb and adjective: alfresco dining, lunch alfresco.
