Freedom
Absence of bondage
Freedom is the state of being unconstrained—able to act, speak, or live without external restriction.
Political freedom means liberty from oppression: freedom of speech, freedom of the press.
Personal freedom is autonomy over one's choices: the freedom to marry whom you please.
Freedom from something means release or exemption: freedom from want, freedom from fear.
The word often carries idealistic weight, invoked as both an existing right and an aspiration: They fought for freedom.
