Dome of the Rock
Golden Islamic shrine
The Dome of the Rock is a seventh-century Islamic shrine in Jerusalem, built on the Temple Mount—a site sacred to Jews, Christians, and Muslims.
Its golden dome is among the most recognizable landmarks in the Middle East.
The structure marks the spot where Muslims believe Muhammad ascended to heaven and where Jews believe Abraham prepared to sacrifice Isaac.
The Dome of the Rock dominates Jerusalem's Old City skyline.
