Discman

Portable CD player

Discman was Sony's trademark for its portable CD players, introduced in 1984.

The name followed the pattern of Sony's earlier Walkman cassette players.

Like Walkman, Discman became a generic term for any portable CD player: I brought my Discman for the road trip.

The devices were ubiquitous through the 1990s before MP3 players made them obsolete.
