D.C.
Not a state
D.C. is the abbreviation for the District of Columbia, the federal territory containing Washington, the U.S. capital.
In everyday speech, D.C. and Washington are interchangeable: I'm flying to D.C. tomorrow.
In music, D.C. stands for da capo, an instruction to return to the beginning.
In electronics, DC (usually without periods) means direct current, as opposed to AC.
