Columbia
New York's Ivy
Columbia is a word derived from the surname of explorer Christopher Columbus, and is a popular toponym throughout the U.S., where it designates cities, rivers, the nation’s capital, and a prestigious university in New York City.
Canada also has the province British Columbia.
In older use, Columbia is a female personification of the U.S., immortalized in the patriotic song Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean.
