Main Street
Central town road
Main Street is the name given to the central business thoroughfare in countless American towns.
It symbolizes traditional small-town commerce and values, often invoked in contrast to corporate or financial interests: What's good for Wall Street isn't always good for Main Street.
Sinclair Lewis's 1920 novel of the same name satirized small-town provincialism. (Lowercase main street refers to the generic concept.)
