Chinese chess

River divides armies

Chinese chess, also called xiangqi, is a two-player strategy board game that has been played in China for over a thousand years.

Like Western chess, it features pieces with different movement capabilities battling to capture the opponent's general (equivalent to a king), but the board has a river dividing the two sides and pieces are placed on intersections rather than squares.

My grandfather taught me Chinese chess when I was young.
