Chablis

Dry French white

Chablis is a dry white wine made from Chardonnay grapes, named for the town in northern Burgundy, France, where it originated.

True Chablis is crisp and minerally, distinct from the oakier Chardonnays of warmer regions.

In American usage, "chablis" became a generic term for any inexpensive white wine, a practice that irritates wine purists: She bought a jug of chablis for the party.
