Central Valley

Golden State agriculture

Central Valley refers to the large, flat agricultural region running through the center of California, stretching roughly 450 miles between the Sierra Nevada and Coast Ranges.

It encompasses the Sacramento Valley in the north and the San Joaquin Valley in the south, producing much of America's fruits, vegetables, and nuts: Central Valley farms supply half the country's produce.

The term sometimes appears in discussions of water rights, migrant labor, and California politics.
