morula

Pre-blastocyst cell ball

A morula is an early stage of embryonic development, when a fertilized egg has divided into a solid ball of cells resembling a mulberry.

The morula forms before the cells hollow out to become a blastocyst.

The term appears in biology and fertility medicine: The embryo reached the morula stage on day four.
