Ubuntu

Open-source operating system

Ubuntu is a popular open-source operating system based on Linux, known for being user-friendly and free.

Released in 2004, it made Linux accessible to non-technical users and remains widely used on personal computers and servers: I installed Ubuntu on my old laptop to give it new life.

The name comes from the Southern African philosophy of shared humanity. (Lowercase ubuntu is the philosophy itself.)
