Bangladesh
Ganges delta nation
Bangladesh is a densely populated country in South Asia, bordered mostly by India and with a small border with Myanmar, situated on the fertile delta of the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers.
Formerly East Pakistan, it gained independence in 1971 after a bloody liberation war.
The country is known for its low-lying terrain, making it vulnerable to monsoon flooding and cyclones, and for its massive garment manufacturing industry.
Bangladesh is one of the world's largest exporters of clothing.
