island nations
Sea-encircled countries
Island nations are countries whose territory consists entirely or primarily of one or more islands.
The term often appears in discussions of climate change, where rising sea levels threaten low-lying island nations, and in geopolitics, where island nations may face unique challenges of isolation, limited resources, or strategic maritime importance: Pacific island nations have formed coalitions to address climate concerns.
