bride price
Groom's family payment
Bride price is money or goods given by a groom or his family to the bride's family as part of a marriage arrangement.
The practice remains common in parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
It differs from dowry, which flows in the opposite direction—from the bride's family to the groom's.
His family paid a bride price of twelve cattle.
