kimberlite
Diamond-bearing igneous rock
Kimberlite is a volcanic rock that forms deep in the Earth's mantle and sometimes carries diamonds to the surface.
Named after Kimberley, South Africa, where it was first identified, kimberlite pipes are the primary commercial source of diamonds worldwide.
The rock itself is bluish or greenish when unweathered: They discovered a kimberlite deposit in northern Canada.
