Baudrillard

Simulacra and simulation

Jean Baudrillard was a French philosopher and cultural theorist associated with postmodernism.

His most influential idea is the simulacrum—a copy without an original, where representations replace reality entirely.

Baudrillard argued that modern media creates a "hyperreality" where simulations become more real than the real: Baudrillard would say Disneyland exists to convince us the rest of America is real.

His work on consumer society and the Gulf War as media spectacle remains widely cited.
