hyperreality
Copies eclipse originals
Hyperreality is a state where the distinction between reality and simulation dissolves—where representations become more compelling or "real" than the things they supposedly represent.
The term comes from postmodern theory, particularly Jean Baudrillard's work on media and consumer culture.
Theme parks, heavily filtered social media, and 24-hour news coverage all create hyperreal environments where the copy replaces the original: Disneyland's Main Street feels more like "small-town America" than any actual small town.
The hyperreal doesn't falsify reality so much as render the question of authenticity irrelevant.
