fetishism
Arousal from objects
Fetishism is excessive devotion to something, often with irrational or obsessive qualities.
In psychology, sexual fetishism is arousal tied to specific objects or body parts not typically considered sexual: a foot fetishism, leather fetishism.
In anthropology, fetishism refers to the attribution of spiritual power to objects—stones, carvings, or relics believed to hold magical properties.
Marx borrowed the term for commodity fetishism, where goods acquire mystical value beyond their use.
