Alfred the Great

Saxon England's savior

Alfred the Great was king of Wessex from 871 to 899, credited with defending Anglo-Saxon England against Viking invasions and laying foundations for a unified English kingdom.

He is the only English monarch called "the Great." The name appears in historical and educational contexts: Alfred the Great established a system of fortified towns.

His reign is associated with legal reform, literacy promotion, and military reorganization.
