Henry VI
Eton's founding monarch
Henry VI was King of England from 1421 to 1471, ascending to the throne as an infant and later losing it during the Wars of the Roses.
His reign was marked by mental instability and the loss of English territories in France.
Shakespeare dramatized his life in three plays, portraying him as pious but weak—a king unsuited to the violent politics of his age.
