Henry IV
Bolingbroke on throne
Henry IV typically refers to one of several European monarchs, most notably Henry IV of England (1367–1413), who seized the throne from Richard II and founded the House of Lancaster, or Henry IV of France (1553–1610), the first Bourbon king who ended the French Wars of Religion and famously converted to Catholicism, allegedly quipping that "Paris is worth a mass." Shakespeare dramatized the English king's reign in two history plays featuring the exploits of Prince Hal and Falstaff.
