Northmen

Medieval Norse seafarers

Northmen is a historical term for the Norse peoples of Scandinavia, particularly during the Viking Age (roughly 793–1066 CE).

The word appears in medieval chronicles describing raiders, traders, and settlers from what is now Norway, Sweden, and Denmark: The Northmen came in longships to plunder the monasteries.

It is largely interchangeable with Vikings or Norsemen, though Northmen emphasizes geographic origin rather than activity.
