Sweet Home Alabama

Dixie rock hymn

"Sweet Home Alabama" is a 1974 rock song by Lynyrd Skynyrd that became an anthem of Southern pride and identity.

The song responds to Neil Young's critical portrayals of the South, and its opening guitar riff is instantly recognizable.

The phrase has become shorthand for Southern culture generally, sometimes affectionately and sometimes as a stereotype: Every family reunion turns into Sweet Home Alabama.

The song also inspired a 2002 romantic comedy of the same name.
