ANZAC
Southern hemisphere corps
ANZAC is an acronym for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, the combined military force that fought at Gallipoli in 1915 during World War I.
The term extends to any soldier from Australia or New Zealand who served in that war.
ANZAC Day, April 25, commemorates the Gallipoli landing and honors Australian and New Zealand military personnel.
My great-grandfather was an ANZAC. (Anzac appears in compounds like Anzac biscuit.)
