zapping

Hitting with electricity

Zapping is the act of destroying, killing, or hitting something with sudden force or energy—often suggesting electricity, radiation, or weaponry: The laser kept zapping the invaders.

In casual use, zapping means changing TV channels rapidly with a remote, or heating something quickly in a microwave: I'm just zapping some leftovers.

The word carries a sense of speed and decisiveness.
