taser

Fires electric darts

A taser is a weapon that delivers an electric shock to incapacitate someone, typically used by police for subduing suspects without lethal force.

The device fires two small darts connected by wires that deliver a disabling jolt: The officer drew his taser when the man refused to comply.

As a verb, to taser someone is to shock them with such a device.

The lowercase form has become generic for any similar electroshock weapon. (Capitalized Taser is the trademark.)
