carder

Fiber-aligning tool user

A carder is a person or machine that cards fiber—combing and aligning raw wool, cotton, or other fibers to prepare them for spinning.

The work was historically done by hand with paddle-like tools covered in wire teeth, now largely mechanized in textile production.

Separately, a carder is someone who commits credit card fraud, stealing card numbers or using them for unauthorized purchases.
