felted

Like pool tables

Felted describes fabric or fiber that has been matted together through heat, moisture, and pressure to form a dense, non-woven material.

Wool sweaters become felted when washed incorrectly—the fibers tangle and shrink into a thick, compact cloth: She accidentally felted her favorite cardigan in the hot wash.

Felted crafts use this process intentionally to create sturdy fabric for hats, bags, or ornaments.
