copse
Cluster of trees
A copse is a small group of trees growing close together, typically in open country or at the edge of a field.
The word suggests something smaller and more compact than a wood or forest—a cluster you could walk through in a minute: We picnicked in the shade of a copse.
The variant coppice has the same meaning.
