wolfsbane

Poisonous purple flower

Wolfsbane is a highly poisonous plant of the genus Aconitum, with hooded purple or blue flowers.

The name reflects old beliefs that it could ward off wolves—or kill them.

In folklore and fiction, wolfsbane protects against werewolves: She hung wolfsbane by the door during the full moon.

Also called aconite or monkshood.
