yew
Churchyard evergreen tree
A yew is an evergreen tree or shrub with dark needles and red berries, known for its longevity and dense, fine-grained wood.
Yews are commonly planted in churchyards and cemeteries throughout Britain.
The wood was historically prized for making longbows: English archers drew yew bows at Agincourt.
All parts of the tree except the berry flesh are poisonous.
