ITCZ
Equatorial low-pressure belt
ITCZ stands for Intertropical Convergence Zone, a belt near the equator where trade winds from the Northern and Southern hemispheres meet.
This convergence forces warm, moist air upward, producing heavy rainfall and frequent thunderstorms.
The ITCZ shifts north and south with the seasons, bringing wet and dry periods to tropical regions.
Sailors historically called it the doldrums for its calm, unpredictable winds.
