La Nina
Equatorial ocean chill
La Niña is a climate pattern in the Pacific Ocean, the counterpart to El Niño.
During La Niña, unusually cold ocean temperatures develop along the equatorial Pacific, affecting weather worldwide—typically bringing wetter conditions to Australia and Southeast Asia, drier conditions to the Americas.
The name is Spanish for "the girl," contrasting with El Niño ("the boy").
La Niña conditions are expected to persist through winter.
