demos

Bands' audition tapes

Demos is the plural of demo, which has two main senses.

A demo is a demonstration—a sample or preview showing how something works: software demos, product demos, game demos.

In music, a demo is a rough recording made to showcase a song before professional production: The band sent demos to record labels.

To demo something is to demonstrate it or, informally, to demolish it.
