photogrammetry
Surveying via photographs
Photogrammetry is the science of taking measurements from photographs.
By analyzing multiple overlapping images of an object or landscape, specialists can calculate distances, dimensions, and three-dimensional positions.
The technique is used in mapmaking, surveying, architecture, and increasingly in video games and film to create realistic 3D models from real-world objects: They used photogrammetry to scan the actor's face.
