raycasting

Line-of-sight calculation

Raycasting is a rendering technique that projects imaginary lines from a viewpoint to determine what surfaces they intersect.

Early 3D video games like Wolfenstein 3D used raycasting to create the illusion of depth on limited hardware.

The technique also applies to collision detection and line-of-sight calculations: The game uses raycasting to check if the player can see the enemy.
